Guglielmo Vicario has finally completed his loan move to Juventus and claims he dreamed of making the transfer since he was a child.
The goalkeeper joins Juve on loan from Tottenham and will have the opportunity to impress during the season and earn a permanent move to the club at the end of the campaign. The transfer gives Vicario a fresh opportunity after an underwhelming spell in north London, despite winning the Europa League with Tottenham.
Very few Tottenham fans would describe Vicario’s spell at the club as a successful one, while Luciano Spalletti had reservations about the Italian goalkeeper earlier in the window. However, after Juventus failed to land their main goalkeeper targets, they turned their attention towards a move for Vicario.
Vicario had told Spurs that he wanted to leave, while Roberto De Zerbi did not include him in his plans. This made it easier for the Lilywhites to pursue his departure, although the goalkeeper did not find a club willing to sign him until Juventus made their move.
He is now set to become their number one for the 2026/2027 season, with Juventus hoping he can maintain good form and avoid costly mistakes. For Vicario, however, the move represents the fulfilment of a long-held ambition.
He said via Football Italia:
“The emotion is really huge, because it’s a bit of a lifelong dream.”
Adding: “Ever since I was a child I’ve dreamed of and hoped for this moment, though of course you never have any certainty you’ll actually manage it, so I’m extremely proud of myself, and for my family, for having got there.”
Vicario’s comments underline the significance of the move for him and his family. After his time at Tottenham failed to develop as hoped, the goalkeeper now has an opportunity to begin a new chapter with Juventus.
The loan arrangement also gives Vicario the chance to prove himself at the club and potentially secure a permanent transfer at the end of the season. Juventus will expect him to provide consistency between the posts, while Vicario will be determined to make the most of an opportunity he has wanted since childhood.
For now, the goalkeeper can celebrate finally reaching Juventus, with the chance to establish himself as their first-choice goalkeeper, providing an important next step in his career.
