Victor Anichebe ‘working towards’ Bromley takeover after Gateshead deal collapsed | OneFootball

Victor Anichebe has been linked with a move to take control of League One side Bromley as he steps up plans to enter club ownership, following a collapsed attempt at Gateshead last year.

Patreon reports that Anichebe, 38, is already heavily involved at Hayes Lane and is working towards taking control, having arranged a Cheshire training camp for the squad during the international break.

The former Everton and West Bromwich Albion forward owns Lumira Group, a holding company investing in sport, education, healthcare and infrastructure. There were suggestions in the summer that he was influencing Bromley’s recruitment ahead of a potential deal.

His Gateshead move was part of a consortium effort early in 2025, with appearances at the International Stadium fuelling talk of his involvement. The deal collapsed in May after final agreements required by the governing bodies were not reached. Chairman Neil Pinkerton stepped down and the club faced significant challenges for the following season.

Anichebe joined Sunderland for the 2016-17 Premier League season under David Moyes on a deal to the end of the campaign. He made 18 league appearances, starting 14, and scored three goals, plus one League Cup game. In November 2016 he netted at Bournemouth then twice in a 3-0 home win over Hull City before knee ligament damage at West Brom disrupted his season.

Sunderland were relegated and he departed that summer, later playing in China before retiring to focus on business. Bromley have risen quickly and sealed promotion to League One last season, so any successful bid would place him at the helm of an established EFL club.
