Werder Bremen striker Victor Boniface has been dealt a double blow after being omitted from Nigeria's AFCON 2025 squad and subsequently ruled out of his club's upcoming Bundesliga match. The 24-year-old Super Eagles forward will miss Sunday's fixture against VfB Stuttgart due to injury, compounding his recent disappointment.
The setback occurred shortly after he was left out of coach Eric Chelle's final 28-man selection for the continental tournament, facing stiff competition for a forward position.
Bremen's head coach, Horst Steffen, provided details on the injury, stating that Boniface sustained a knee contusion from a direct collision. "It happened in a challenge, knee to knee, and it really hurt," Steffen explained. He further noted, "Unfortunately, the recovery hasn't been as quick as we'd hoped… I can't yet say whether he'll be available for us again this year."
Boniface is now in a race against time to regain fitness before the Bundesliga's winter break.
