According to Le Progres, Internacional defender Victor Gabriel has been suspended until injured Cruzeiro forward Gabriel Pec returns to training, with the sanction capped at 180 days.
Gabriel was shown a straight red for a dangerous tackle on Pec's shin in the 19th round of the Brasileirão Betano between Internacional de Porto Alegre and Cruzeiro on 23 July.
Pec left the pitch on a stretcher with his leg bleeding, then underwent surgery after tests revealed a fracture of the left tibia.
The Superior Court of Sports Justice opened a disciplinary commission to examine the case. During the hearing, Gabriel apologised, calling the challenge a very unfortunate action, insisting he had no bad intent and offering Pec his support.
The commission delivered its verdict on 28 July, handing Gabriel a six-match ban to be extended until Pec resumes training.
The ruling cited paragraph 3 of article 254 of the Brazilian code on violent play, which permits such extensions until the injured party is fit to train within the legal limit.
