According to L'Équipe, Victor Joseph has left Sochaux for Marseille. The 19-year-old attacking midfielder hopes to restart a development that had slowed, inspired by Robinio Vaz’s rise and move to AS Roma. He is due to begin with the reserves in N3.
In the 1930s OM and Sochaux vied at the summit. Today the balance is stark, with OM third in Ligue 1 and Sochaux third in the National.
After signing Alexandre Issanga and Robinio Vaz in summer 2024, then France under-17 internationals, OM have added Joseph, a left-footed playmaker with vision. Sochaux were initially reluctant yet accepted, seeking long-term income. Their deficit is close to €4m on a €12m budget, while Vaz’s €25m sale brings them more than €2.5m.
Vaz’s success helped shape Joseph’s choice. Recent game time under Vincent Hognon was scarce, seven minutes in the National and 116 minutes across three Coupe de France ties. Sochaux let him go for around €200,000, with a sizeable sell-on clause attached.
Joseph joined Sochaux in 2022 after spells in the Paris region with clubs including Paris FC and Red Star. He dazzled for the under-19s in 2024-2025, scoring 15 times in 26 matches, which earned a three-year professional deal in February. He scored a fine free-kick in July in a 2-1 friendly defeat to Dijon.
He featured heavily in pre-season, then suffered a thigh injury and struggled to regain a place. He is rated for technique, final-third passing and stamina, but must add physical strength. He appears confident of resuming his trajectory in Provence.
