Manchester United succumbed to their fifth defeat of December on Thursday as Wolverhampton Wanderers ran away with a 2-0 win at the Molineux.

Ruben Amorim has managed to win only seven points from a possible 21 since his arrival with the team languishing in 14th position and if he does not compromise with his vision, a relegation scrap could be on the cards.

The players in the squad do not fit his 3-4-3 style with the Portuguese having to work with a toothless attack and a leaky defence which has conceded 10 goals in the last four games.

The 39-year-old head coach would prefer a revamp in January but INEOS are unlikely to fund a massive transfer spree now, willing to wait till the summer.

Lindelof to be sold

Still, outgoings are being planned with Victor Lindelof, whose contract ends in 2025, among those linked with an exit in the winter window.

Leicester City, currently managed by former United interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy, were interested in the Swede but as per transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the Foxes are unlikely to win the race.

The Red Devils would prefer to earn a fee but with the possibility of leaving as a free agent to join a club of his choice, Lindelof, who is currently injured, could choose to see out his remaining days in Manchester instead of jumping ship to join the Foxes, who look primed to get relegated barring a miracle.

“£31 million star Victor Lindelof is expected to say goodbye to the Red Devils in 2025, with his contract due to expire in June,” Romano told Givemesport.

“Man United will be open to listening to proposals in January, but when a player has the chance to be a free agent a few months later it has to be the right opportunity, or he could decide to wait until the summer to find his favourite solution without involving the club.

Leicester unlikely to sign Swede

“There have been several links between Leicester City and Lindelof due to Ruud van Nistelrooy’s appreciation, but sources guarantee that there are no talks ongoing and probably the Swedish defender will look at different clubs when it’s time to leave Man United.”

The 30-year-old suffered an injury on his first start after returning from injury, and he is too injury-prone to receive a new deal at the club.

The former Benfica ace’s injury problems have restricted him to just 339 minutes across nine appearances in all competitions, and the club cannot afford to carry passengers.

Turkish and Serie A clubs are willing to take a risk with the Sweden international and the chance to play in the Champions League would be a hard deal to turn down for Lindelof in what might be his last major contract.
