Athletic have appointed 33-year-old Víctor Martín as head coach of their Liga F Moeve team, the club said, on a contract to 30 June 2027.

The Madrid-born coach becomes the 11th manager in the club’s history and returns to the top flight after spells at Madrid CFF and Atlético, leaving the latter in January.

A graduate in Sports Science from Universidad Francisco de Vitoria, Martín moved into coaching early. He spent six seasons in Madrid CFF’s academy, winning titles each year and taking the reserves up to Segunda División.

He then took charge of Madrid CFF’s first team in Liga F in 2018-2019, becoming the league’s youngest head coach at 26.

Martín switched to the men’s game with Albacete Balompié as director of methodology and assistant coach. He later worked in Uzbekistan as assistant and analyst at Metallurg Bekabad.

Back in women’s football, he returned to Madrid CFF in January 2023 and delivered the club’s best finishes, fifth in 2022-2023 and sixth in 2023-2024.

From there he joined Atlético for a season and a half, departing by mutual agreement after a poor run capped by a heavy defeat to Real Madrid in the Supercopa semi-final in Castellón.

Under Martín, Atleti finished third in 2024-25 and came through qualifying to reach the new league phase for the first time, before being knocked out by Manchester United in the play-off. He now takes charge at Athletic.
