Sunderland saw a €25m January bid for Osasuna winger Victor Munoz rejected, with the 22-year-old turning down a move to Wearside, according to El Pais.

Munoz is said to be available only if his €40m release clause is triggered, and interest across Europe reportedly includes Sunderland among the suitors.

The Real Madrid academy graduate was handed his first senior Spain call-up this month and scored on debut in a friendly win over Serbia on Friday.

He will hope to impress Luis de la Fuente again when the European champions face Egypt on Tuesday, which could put him in contention for the World Cup in North America this summer as Spain chase a first global title since 2010.

Another complicating factor is a reported 50% resale clause in Madrid’s favour from the deal that took him to Osasuna last summer.
