It’s 2-0 at Stamford Bridge in Chelsea’s game against Bayer Leverkusen, and it’s Joao Pedro who has scored the second.
It came after a superb move, in a game where the Blues played lots of great football.
Youngster Genesis Antwi needed to do something special in his cameo on the pitch – and he did just that. His drop of the shoulder and burst of pace down the right took him clear of his marker, and he used the yard he gained to play a smooth cutback.
Two Chelsea players went for the ball and either missed it or dummied it, throwing off the defenders. Edmond Tabsoba got a stud on it as it went through, but Joao Pedro didn’t let that put him off.
He was aware he had time and space. He took a touch, then hit a superb right footed finish across goal along the ground, screwing the ball beyond Mark Flekken’s reach into the keeper’s bottom right corner.
As it was, it was the last touch of the game – and it was a worthy one.

We’ve seen just a few games from Joao Pedro in a Chelsea shirt so far, but he’s already shown off a crazy variety of finishes – a power strike from range, a deft first time chip over the keeper, and now this, a measured low finesse shot into the corner.
We were worried about his goalscoring record when we signed him – but to us his finishing looks top class. If he gets the chances, it’s hard to not see him bagging lots of goals this season. He’s surely locked in as first choice striker to start the season now.
