Liverpool coach Arne Slot faced loud boos from Galatasaray fans before Champions League match in Istanbul.

Slot interrupted before kick-off

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot faced a surprising moment before Champions League match against Galatasaray in Istanbul. The Dutch manager appeared on the pitch for a pre match interview ahead of first leg of the round of 16.

However the interview could not continue as thousands of Galatasaray supporters began to whistle and boo loudly from the stands. The noise made it impossible for Slot to answer the questions during the live broadcast.

Slot reacted calmly to the situation. He stayed silent for a few seconds, looked toward the stands and then smiled before the interview was stopped.

A hostile atmosphere in Istanbul

The intense reaction from the home crowd showed the strong atmosphere inside the stadium before kick-off. Galatasaray supporters are known for creating one of the most intimidating environments in European football especially during Champions League nights.

The reaction also reflected the importance of the match, with both teams fighting for a place in the quarter-finals of the competition.

A match with extra motivation

The game also carried extra meaning for Liverpool. Earlier in the season, the English side had already faced Galatasaray during the league phase of Champions League, losing 1-0.

That result added a sense of revenge to the round of 16 clash as Liverpool aimed to respond and improve their record against the Turkish side.
