Atalanta were starting to feel cursed after having a triple scoring opportunity go begging on the way towards conceding the third Club Brugge goal.
The Champions League play-off had already got off to a nightmare start in the first leg when losing 2-1 in added time to a comical penalty decision that has been derided all over Europe.
It got worse in Bergamo when Club Brugge scored on the counter-attack twice in the opening 27 minutes through Chemsdine Talbi.

They thought surely they’d get back into the tie in first half stoppages when Davide Zappacosta hit the upright, Mario Pasalic’s header was denied by a desperate Simon Mignolet save and Brandon Mechele’s goal-line clearance kept out Juan Cuadrado.
However, as the move continued, Ferran Jutglà smashed in to give Club Brugge a 3-0 lead on the night, 5-1 on aggregate.
