Jon Obi Mikel has laid into Chelsea’s owners for their decision to get rid of Enzo Maresca back in January, calling it a “big, big mistake.”

Jon Obi Mikel has not done a Chelsea focused episode of his podcast for a while now, and after such a horrific run of results and bad news, he had a lot to get off his chest.

His main focus was looking back to January, when the decision to get rid of Enzo Maresca and appoint Liam Rosenior was made.

Mikel points to Chelsea owners’ “big, big mistake” this year

“It was a big, big mistake from the owners, from the sporting directors, to get rid of Enzo Maresca,” the former Chelsea midfielder said.

“Getting rid of a manager who I saw as progressing. The way we played, the philosophy with which we approach games as well. We always competed. We weren’t blown away [against the big teams]. I said it was a huge, huge mistake.

“The truth has come out – sometime he made decisions because his hands were tied. The club will look back at it and think ‘we f*cked up here’.”
