Video: Celtic hold minute silence for Pope Francis before title decider | OneFootball

Celtic and Dundee United held a minute silence to mark the passing of Pope Francis. The Pope passed away on Easter Monday and his funeral was held at the Vatican today.

There was a period of silence before kick off at Tannadice as Celtic look to secure their fourth successive Premiership title. A number of Vatican flags were held up during the silence along with a banner from the Green Brigade in the shed end.

There were some attempts to disrupt the silence either from inside or outside the ground. However, it was largely respected, the least that can be asked for. UEFA have mandated minute’s silences before UEFA competitions over the next week.

Pope Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Buenos Aires in 1936, became the first Jesuit and Latin American pope in 2013. Known for his humility, focus on social justice, and reform efforts, he emphasises compassion, dialogue, and care for the poor and environment. His leadership sought a more inclusive Church, while seeking to create a more inclusive, fair society.
