Clashes broke out between AS FAR supporters and security during CAF Champions League match against Al Ahly in Cairo.

What happened at Cairo International Stadium

Tensions flared during CAF Champions League group-stage match between Al Ahly & AS FAR at Cairo International Stadium on Sunday 15 February.

While the score remained 0-0 in the decisive Round 6 fixture, clashes erupted in the stands involving section of AS FAR fans and Egyptian security forces.

Bottles and objects were thrown forcing security to intervene to restore order and allow the match to continue safely.

Video clips shared on social media showed objects landing near the pitch, with several African football accounts describing the scenes as unacceptable.

Bottles thrown and player injury reported

According to Moroccan outlet Elbotola, the incident began in the stands before spreading closer to the field. Bottles were thrown toward players and AS FAR winger Ahmed Hamoudan was reported to have suffered hand injury during the chaos.

The match carried high pressure as both teams were fighting for top spot in the group.

Background of rising tension between the clubs

The report noted that the unrest followed earlier incidents between the two side this season. During first-leg match in Morocco, Al Ahly filed official complaint to Confederation of African Football after their players were allegedly hit by bottles and other objects.

AS FAR were later sanctioned by CAF’s Disciplinary Committee. The penalties included two home matches behind closed doors and fines totaling $100,000 linked to laser use, throwing projectiles and disrupting play.
