(Video) Egypt eliminated from Arab Cup 2025 after 3-0 defeat to Jordan & UAE qualify as Group C runners-up
Egypt suffered bitter exit from the 2025 Arab Cup after falling 3-0 to Jordan side featuring several squad players on Tuesday.
The defeat left the Pharaohs third in Group C with just two point while Jordan finished top with nine having already secured qualification in the previous round.
The UAE booked the second qualifying spot after defeating Kuwait 3-1 climbing to four point. Kuwait meanwhile exited the tournament bottom of the group with just one point.
Jordan coach Jamal Sellami made sweeping changes to his starting XI resting key names after sealing qualification. Yet the Jordanians still imposed total control over the match from start to finish.
The opening breakthrough arrived in the 19 minute when Mohammad Abu Hashish capitalised on major defensive lapse.
Egyptian defender Karim El Eraki failed to sense the attacker behind him allowing Abu Hashish to finish comfortably past goalkeeper Mohamed Bassam.
Jordan doubled the advantage moments before the break as Mohammad Abu Zrayq unleashed stunning long range strike from the right side curling the ball into the far corner in the 41 minute.
A disastrous night for Egypt worsened in stoppage time when defender Yassin Marei conceded penalty. Ali Alwan converted from the spot to complete 3-0 rout.
The Emirates hopes of reaching the quarter finals depended both on their own result and Egypt’s failure against Jordan and both conditions materialised.
Yahya Al Ghassani struck twice inside two minute, first from the penalty spot in the 16 minute, then again with cool finish moments later.
Kuwait were reduced to ten men when Sultan Al-Anazi received second yellow card after 55 minute.
Four minute later, Fahad Al Hajeri pulled one back for Kuwait giving brief lifeline but Nicolas Gimenez restored UAE’s two goal cushion with crisp shot in the 66 minute.
The UAE held on comfortably and secured their ticket to the last eight.
