Seven PAOK Thessaloniki supporters died and three others were injured after minibus crash with truck in western Romania.
A tragic road accident in Romania has claimed the lives of seven supporters of PAOK Thessaloniki according to local authorities.
Police confirmed that minibus carrying 10 men was traveling from Greece to France when it collided head on with truck in Timis County, in western Romania, on Tuesday.
The group was on football related trip when the crash occurred.
Romanian police said the minibus driver, a 29 year-old man crossed into the opposite lane before hitting the truck. The impact caused severe damage to the vehicle.
Romanian emergency services confirmed that six fan died at the scene while another later passed away.
Three injured passengers were taken to hospital for treatment.
The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, with authorities examining road conditions and driver circumstances at the time of the crash.
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed deep shock after learning of the incident. In message shared on Facebook he said he was “deeply saddened” by the loss of seven young Greek citizens.
Mitsotakis offered condolences to the victims families and to the PAOK club community especially as the team is set to face Lyon on Thursday in Europa League.
