Liam Delap signed for Chelsea yesterday, and today the club released his first interview where he spoke a little about how delighted he was to make the move:

“I’ve grown up as a little boy watching this club, and you know the stature of it. And how incredible it’s been over the years, and you know, to be able to play here it’s going to be incredible,” Delap said.

Asked why he had chosen Stamford Bridge over other options, including Manchester United, Delap explained:

“I just think the whole growth of the club over the last few years, the player, the manager, the trajectory they’re on, it’s going to be an incredible place for me to develop and continue to play good football… They want to continue to win trophies… to take the club back where it belongs.”

New striker on his relationship with Enzo and players

Another reason he picked the Blues was Enzo Maresca, and he spoke a little about their relationship:

“I spent a year with him with the U23s at Man City, he was incredible, I think, to go on to do what he’s done, it shows how good he was when we were young, we had an incredible season that season, we broke almost every record, I scored so many goals, I spent a few more years working with him and when I had that opportunity to come here I couldn’t say no.”

As well as Maresca, Delap played in Man City’s youth team with Cole Palmer and Romeo Lavia, and he mentioned them too:

“I spent a lot of time with Cole and Romeo growing up, played many games with them growing up and enjoyed it. Levi, I played against him hundreds of times as a kid.
