Chelsea won a pretty straightforward victory against Everton today, defending well and taking their chances to beat the Toffees 2-0 at home. This ended a run of 4 games without a win, stopping the rot and getting the season back on track.
The press conference that followed could have been a simple as the 3 points – but instead manager Enzo Maresca went on something of a rant.

What was crazy about Maresca’s outburst was that it came from nowhere. After a couple of very simple questions he was giving a straightforward answer about Malo Gusto, when things took a right turn and he was suddenly talking about the haters and the losers who had doubted him and his team in the last fortnight.
It wasn’t clear if he meant the media, those above him at the club or the fans initially. Either way, it was an odd moment of tension. He made it clear that it wasn’t the fans he was talking about – so who was it? If it’s the media and pundits he’s talking about, well what does he expect? If Chelsea go 4 games without a win he’s going to get criticism. That’s just inevitable.
If he’s talking about those upstairs, this won’t be the last we hear of this.
You can see the manager speaking in the clip embedded here, with this rant coming after 4 minutes:
Maresca talked about Cole Palmer’s impact on his return to the team, noting that the team had been without their star man for long periods of the season.
In the same presser, Enzo Maresca revealed that he had really been struggling with the last 48 hours, making some surprising claims about how he had been coping with them.
