Moises Caicedo has done it again.

Usually the man saving Chelsea by eating space in midfield and making important last ditch tackles, the Ecuador star stepped up today and scored a goal which could end up being the winner in a tight game.

He had miles of space on the edge of the area when the ball fell to him, but his first touch was actually quite poor. It’s a sign of how slow Brentford were to get out to him that he was able to adjust and set himself a second time.

This time he made no mistake. He hit a supremely clean strike which flew through a thicket of defenders and past Caominh Kelleher into the net.

Chelsea are very lucky to be ahead in this game. Their performance – certainly for about 70 minutes – hasn’t merited it. They now have to dig deep and make sure they walk away with 3 points.

Chelsea forced to turn to their big guns despite bigger challenges on the horizon

We really didn’t want to have to use Moises Caicedo tonight, given how much he played in the international break and how much he’s going to have to play next week.

But when you use him, he delivers. He’s getting a reputation for scoring screamers as well as breaking up attacks. He adds this edge of the box thrasher to his halfway line effort from 18 months ago.

It’s the same story with Cole Palmer – he should have been on the bench tonight getting fit ahead of our Champions League return. But they were needed tonight, and given they’re perhaps our two best players, that should be no surprise.
