Chelsea lead at Stamford Bridge.

They’ve been good in this first 25 minutes, spreading the ball wide and getting dangerous crosses and set pieces in. It’s 10 goal attempts to 1. And one of them has finally stuck. A cleared ball fell to Reece James on the edge of the box, and his effort his a defender and popped up to Tosin Adarabioyo.

The defender took a nice touch and turn before finishing. But everyone else had stopped. Goalkeeper Jose Sa was stranded anyway, but didn’t make much of an effort to save it. Four Chelsea players were standing offside when James hit the ball, and the flag went up the moment the ball hit the net. However when VAR checked, it became clear that a Wolves defender was keeping Tosin on.

The keeper’s view hadn’t been blocked by the offside Blues, nor had they interfered in any other way. So after a length check, the goal was given and the crowd and players could give a half-hearted second celebration.

That’s Tosin’s third goal in his last two starts. It didn’t quite match his efforts against Morecambe – but it means a lot more to this team.

Chelsea have had two problems recently – scoring from their many chances and holding on to leads. They’ve managed the first part today, now they’ve got to worry about the second.

The best thing they can do, of course, is add a new more goals and take pressure off their defence. We’ve seen far too many promising first halves let down by poor second periods of late.
