Fabrizio Romano’s latest transfer video is out, and as always there was plenty of Chelsea related stuff in there.

Jadon Sancho’s situation is a particular talking point at the moment after the Athletic revealed that there is a £5m clause in the winger’s loan contract which would allow them to cancel the deal.

There have been some sources saying the Blues will trigger that option after a disappointing second half of the season, and others saying they won’t. Romano weighed in as follows:

“The expectation of sources is for the [purchase] agreement to be absolutely triggered, for something around £25m as a final number… Chelsea’s position of today: they are quite happy… Jadon Sancho is very happy, he would like to stay at Chelsea. But it really depends what’s going to happen in the next months. At the moment, Chelsea are not activating anything in terms of sending the player back to Man Utd.”

Chelsea have multiple attacking options on the table

Another player mentioned in Romano’s chat was Christopher Nkunku, who looks like he could be on the way out. But with the Frenchman likely to leave and Joao Felix apparently on the chopping block too, it does make paying to terminate Sancho’s deal look a little less likely.

Of course there are fresh attacking talents coming in, and they may well want to clear further space. But despite a drop off from Sancho since the turn of the year, £25m is a decent price to bring him as a squad player, even if he sees fewer minutes next season and is potentially even eventually sold on once players like Estevao Wilian have bedded into the squad.
