Chelsea are 2-0 down to Everton, their Champions League hopes are going up in smoke, and there’s one man standing with his legs slightly too far apart in the collapsing ruins of their season: Robert Sanchez.

The Blues were already 1-0 down, but had finally started to get a hold on the game after the break. Once again, they were let down by slow midfield play and terrible goalkeeping.

A soft giveaway handed the home side the ball and Beto hammered a shot at Sanchez, who let the ball through his legs.

You can see the goal in the clips embedded here:

Sanchez escapes punishment for first mistake – but not the second

Sanchez could easily have been even more embarrassed in the first half. Yet more casual play in his own box meant he almost had the ball nicked off his toes by Beto after ten minutes.

He was lucky to get away with that one – he didn’t get away with it twice.

In other news…

Conceding in the first half meant Chelsea are now 15 games without a clean sheet. That would be unacceptable for a team on half our budget.

A Sky pundit speaking about Chelsea called their first half performance “wretched” after they were carved apart repeatedly.
