Viktor Gyokeres' agreement with Premier League club rubbished

Talk of an agreement between Manchester United and Sporting CP for Viktor Gyokeres has been bluntly billed as premature by a new report.

Gyokeres is being chased by seemingly every elite European club in search of a new striker this summer. Barcelona have been floated despite the difficulties they may face in meeting his asking price - which is set at a minimum of €60m (£50.2m).

Chelsea are also thought to be interested while Arsenal are viewed as the 26-year-old's preferred destination thanks largely to their guarantee of Champions League football.

Manchester United are by no means certain of featuring in Europe's premier club competition next season. In fact, their only route into the tournament is by winning the Europa League. Yet, some outlets have claimed that Gyokeres' move to Old Trafford is already a "done deal".

Sky Sport Germany strongly refute those reports. While United head coach Ruben Amorim is said to be "very keen" on his former player and "concrete talks" have supposedly taken place, there has been no agreement between Sporting and the Premier League outfit.

The report goes so far as to claim that Gyokeres may not even be willing to move to a Manchester United side enduring the worst campaign of their recent history.

Whether United could even afford Gyokeres is another matter entirely. The Red Devils are said to be prioritising moves for younger talents on the rise who will not command a large transfer fee or initial salary. This shift in strategy after years of wasted revenue has seen United reportedly make Ipswich Town's Liam Delap - who is expected to be available for just £30m - the club's first-choice striker target.

United are thought to be trying to offload the misfiring Rasmus Hojlund. The Dane boasts just nine goals across all competitions this season - fewer than Gyokeres has mustered across his previous five games. Recent reports suggest that United would accept as little as £30m for Hojlund, which would cover a move for Delap rather than Gyokeres.
