Viktor Gyokeres says the Arsenal players’ honest discussions after their draw with Wolves last week set the tone for a big response against Spurs.
Gyokeres and Ebere Eze both scored twice as Arsenal thrashed their north London rivals 4-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
It followed the draw with bottom side Wolves last Wednesday, in which the Gunners let a two-goal lead slip to draw 2-2.
Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice revealed ahead of the game with Spurs that the players held an open and honest discussion, and Gyokeres has shed more light on what the conversations entailed.
“I think most of us spoke and I think it’s important sometimes just to say what you feel and to let it out in the group and everyone can recognise how different persons feel in the moment,” the Swedish striker said.
“You get a better understanding of the feeling and I think when you speak in the group openly like that, I think, yeah, you come closer together and I think it’s very important to do that sometimes.
“I think that’s what we have to do. I think if you’re not honest, I think it’s hard to improve. I think that’s most important to be (honest), especially in the team.“
Gyokeres took his goal tally for the season to ten in the league and 15 in all competitions with his double against Spurs.
And asked if that was his best game since joining the club last summer, he said: “I think when I’m involved like I was today and get the balls around the box as well, chances, I think yeah, of course it’s easier than to show my qualities and to be able to score goals.
“So yeah, I think it was one of them.
“After the last result, we, of course, had this game and I think it was a great game to have after the Wolves game.
“To get this result and this performance was the perfect way to respond, I think.”
