The Sporting CP striker has been linked with a move to Old Trafford as part of Ruben Amorim’s rebuild following their worst-ever Premier League campaign.

However, Portuguese outlet Record claim that his agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, has told the Red Devils his client does not want to be reunited with his former manager.

Earlier this week Record reported that Cetinkaya had on Wednesday met officials from Man United and Arsenal, who were said to be leading the race to the player’s signature.

The Gunners have seemingly formalised their interest in Gyokeres with an opening bid for the Sweden international, it is claimed.

Arsenal want to pay an initial £46.8 million, with a possible £8.5m in add ons, to secure the centre-forward that Mikel Arteta needs to take his team to the next level.

On Wednesday, Sporting president Frederico Varandas has denied the existence of a ‘gentlemen’s agreement’ to allow the former Brighton man to leave the club for a fixed fee of £50.8m (€60m) plus £8.4m (€10m) in add ons. He also confirmed that they have not received an offer for the player.

“I can guarantee that Viktor Gyokeres will not leave for 60m euros plus 10m euros because I never promised that,” said Varandas. “To this day, Sporting has not received an offer for Gyokeres – neither today nor last summer.”

Gyokeres, who has a €100m (£85m) release clause in his contract, was said to be furious at the Lisbon outfit’s stance and is willing to go on strike to engineer an exit.

The 27-year-old has sensational in front of goal since signing from Coventry City in 2023, finding the net 97 times in 102 appearances.
