Aston Villa could still move for another winger this summer despite agreeing a loan for Alejandro Garnacho, who has completed a medical.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 22-year-old’s switch from Chelsea is on track to be finalised on Thursday and includes a conditional option to buy that could lead to a four-year deal if terms are met.
UEFA are likely to scrutinise the terms given its strict stance on short-term player trading. If any clause were judged to make a permanent move ‘virtually certain’, it would cut the profit Villa can book from selling Morgan Rogers to Chelsea for a British record £117m, although that sale eased immediate financial pressure.
Unai Emery prioritised pace out wide and initially targeted two signings. Plans shifted after a midfield rebuild was required following Amadou Onana’s injury and the sale of Youri Tielemans.
A combined £90m has been spent on Johan Manzambi and Joao Gomes, and, should finances allow, Villa could yet target another winger later in the window.
That may hinge on outgoings, with Hull City holding talks over Leon Bailey and Villa open to offers for Evann Guessand.
Emery also wants a left-back to replace Lucas Digne, who is joining Paris Saint-Germain, and a right-back.
