Villarreal have arrived in Málaga for tonight’s LaLiga EA Sports trip to La Rosaleda, matchday six, with kick-off at 21:30. Iñigo Pérez’s side badly need a first league win after a difficult start.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the team travelled on Thursday morning via Valencia airport and there is a sense this is a significant game. They have drawn two and lost three in the opening five rounds, including 2-3 and 1-2 home defeats by Deportivo de La Coruña and Real Betis.
The travelling party was led by president Fernando Roig and chief executive Fernando Roig Negueroles. Board members Luis Espejo, Pascual Ibáñez, Salvador Ten, Adolfo Andreu and Juan Malabia also made the trip, alongside director of football Miguel Ángel Tena and club ambassador Marcos Senna.
Pérez has his squad available apart from injured defender Juan Foyth. The Argentine is close to completing his recovery and is expected to be able to return in the next match against Levante UD.
The squad will rest at the Sercotel Rosaleda Málaga hotel, about 1.7 kilometres from the stadium. They are scheduled to leave for La Rosaleda at 19:50, one and a half hours before kick-off in line with LaLiga regulations. Around 23 degrees are forecast at match time as Villarreal look to spark a reaction.
