Villarreal captain Raul Albiol has agreed terms on contract extension for next season.
The Yellow Submarine are planning squad changes ahead of the new season with one major sale expected to fund reinforcements.
However, alongside new signings, the club are also making decisions on a host of players with expiring contracts.
Former Liverpool full back Alberto Moreno has already departed, after five seasons in Castellon, with the 32-year-old aiming to stay in La Liga next season.
Despite their willingness to let Moreno leave, Albiol’s experience is viewed as vital, with the 38-year-old making 24 league starts last season.
Both parties have now agreed to extend his bond for another 12 months, in what would be his 21st season of top flight football across stints in Spain and Italy, as per the latest from Relevo.
He will become oldest outfield player in La Liga next season with a five day edge over Real Madrid captain Luka Modric.
