Villarreal return from the break still chasing their first clean sheet of the season. The last time they shut an opponent out was in February, a 1-0 win away to Levante sealed by Mikautadze.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, Iñigo Pérez’s side have looked sturdier in recent games, yet the run without a shutout remains.
Against Málaga, the team created little and Dotor’s goal came via a ricochet, leaving Peter Gulasci with no real chance. The goalkeeper has brought greater assurance, adding experience and several sound interventions.
In their subsequent victory over Levante, the only Levante effort ended up in the net. The cross may have arrived too freely, but Iván Romero’s clipped scissor finish left the keeper with little chance.
Keeping the next opponents out will not be straightforward. The Santiago Bernabéu is one of Europe’s hardest stages, while Italian opposition tend to be a stern test. Across the campaign, Villarreal have conceded 12 in La Liga from seven matches, plus three in Dortmund in the Champions League.
