Villarreal have decided not to take up the seven million euros purchase option on Alfon González, who joined on loan from Sevilla in January.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the club have informed the 27-year-old he will not continue and must report back to Sevilla, where he has two years left on his contract.
He arrived at Sevilla last summer as a free agent after his Celta Vigo contract expired, having emerged as a standout with the Galician side.
In his first half-season at Sevilla he made 13 official appearances, scoring two goals, but struggled for continuity. The January move offered Villarreal an immediately adaptable winger and gave the player a platform to show his qualities.
At Villarreal he made 10 La Liga appearances, starting three, and scored in the win at Athletic Club at San Mamés. His contribution came during a campaign that delivered a historic third-place finish and a second successive season in the Champions League places.
