Villarreal face extended September FIFA window with up to 12 call-ups | OneFootball

Villarreal will be down to the bare bones during an unusually long September FIFA window, which runs from Monday 21 September to 6 October. Up to 12 first-team players are away, leaving Íñigo Pérez with a severely reduced group.

El Periódico Mediterráneo reports that 11 senior internationals have departed, with Spain Under-19 call-up Carlos Maciá involved from 21 to 24 September.

Those selected at senior level are Santiago Mouriño, Alex Freeman, Nathan Saliba, Tajon Buchanan, Tani Oluwaseyi, Georges Mikautadze, Nicolas Pépé, Pape Gueye, Renato Veiga, Logan Costa and Ilias Akhomach.

Juan Foyth had been called by Argentina for three friendlies, including Lionel Messi’s farewell, but he will stay in Miralcamp to build fitness after injury. Renato Veiga has four Nations League games for Portugal against Wales, Norway and Denmark, while Georges Mikautadze’s Georgia face Northern Ireland twice, Ukraine and Hungary.

Santiago Mouriño heads to Asia with Uruguay to face Japan, South Korea and India. In Concacaf, Alex Freeman has four games for the United States against Peru, Chile, Mexico and Canada, and Canada’s Nathan Saliba, Tajon Buchanan and Tani Oluwaseyi face Chile, Peru and the US.

Nicolas Pépé features for Ivory Coast against Ghana, Somalia and Cameroon, Pape Gueye joins Senegal to meet Mozambique, Ethiopia and Comoros, Logan Costa represents Cape Verde against Mali and Rwanda, and Ilias Akhomach links up with Morocco to play Gabon, Lesotho and Ghana.

Maciá returns on Thursday 24 September. Villarreal resume LaLiga on 10 October at Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu.
