Villarreal reached 41 points at the halfway stage for the first time after yesterday’s 3-1 win over Deportivo Alavés. The result set a new club record for a Primera División first half.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the Submarine had never previously reached 40 points in the opening half. Their best had been 39 in 2010/11 and 2015/16, a mark now surpassed.
They still have the postponed fixture against Levante to play, after it was called off due to an orange alert in the province of Valencia.
Marcelino has also matched his best home return across a half-season with Villarreal. He has eight wins, one draw and one defeat, a total of 25 points, replicating 2015/16.
This milestone continues a campaign in which records are becoming a theme for Villarreal.
