Villarreal submit offer for Lyon’s Georges Mikautadze | OneFootball

Olympique Lyonnais must still sell players, either in this window or in the next. €40m worth of player sales is necessary to fulfil the requirements set by the DNCG, French football’s financial watchdog, when OL’s administrative relegation to Ligue 2 was overturned on appeal.

It had been expected that Malick Fofana would be the player to depart. The Belgian winger is on the shortlists of many top clubs, however, for now, only Everton have submitted a suitable offer. The Toffees’ offer was accepted, but Fofana rejected to opportunity to move to the Merseyside club.

The player to leave for big money could instead be Georges Mikautadze (24). The Georgia international is a guaranteed starter under Paulo Fonseca, but he may have to be sacrificed to raise the funds. Sacha Tavolieri understands that Villarreal, who will play in the UEFA Champions League next season, have submitted an offer for Mikautadze. The value of the bid has not been revealed, but Lyon could find themselves in a difficult position where they have to reluctantly accept.
