Villarreal have extended promising reserve centre-back Jean Ives Valou’s contract to 2030. The club said in a statement that his previous deal ran to 2028, now extended by two years.

Jean Ives Valou, born in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, on 22/12/2005, is a left-footed centre-back known for his physical power, anticipation and strength in defensive duels.

He arrived in 2024 from the Étoiles du Mandé academy and has established himself as a key figure for David Albelda’s side. He made his first-team debut last season against UD Poblense in the Copa del Rey.

Marcelino has significant depth at centre-back, with Renato Veiga, Juan Foyth, Rafa Marín and Pau Navarro in the senior ranks. Willy Kambwala is close to returning, and Logan Costa will come back when he recovers from a ruptured cruciate ligament in his knee.

Given that competition, in principle, first-team opportunities could be difficult for Valou at present.
