Villarreal to wear 90s-inspired shirt for LaLiga EA Sports Retro Matchday | OneFootball

Villarreal will wear a retro-inspired shirt for LaLiga EA Sports’ Retro Matchday, scheduled from 10 to 13 April 2026, recalling years that cemented their Primera status and European ambitions.

It will debut against Athletic Club on matchday 31, reviving an aesthetic linked to an attacking side that began to make its name in Europe. The club said in a statement that the design takes its cue from kits of the 90s and early 2000s.

The shirt, already on sale in official stores, keeps yellow as the dominant colour and adds a polo-style collar with blue sleeve details. It also restores Joma’s old logo, the embroidered club crest and Pamesa Cerámica’s sponsor in red.

To launch the kit, Villarreal staged a photo session featuring Gerard Moreno alongside former strikers Víctor Fernández Chingu and Gica Craioveanu.

The initiative aims to show how club identities are transmitted, inherited and reshaped over time, with modern materials reinterpreting classic looks. Across Primera División, leading clubs have opted for a direct return to their roots.
