Villarreal Women claimed a point in Cáceres to secure a promotion play-off place and keep alive hopes of a Primera División return two years after relegation.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the weekend also settled other outcomes, with Alavés sealing automatic promotion and Valencia Féminas joining Villarreal in the play-offs. Holding third place, excluding B teams, would bring home advantage in the semi-finals.
Jordi Ferrios’s side had a taxing afternoon at Cacereño, who are fighting to stay in Primera Federación. Villarreal had the better of the first half, then after the interval Montse Quesada’s goal came under sustained pressure.
There is now another interruption to the calendar, the league will not resume until the weekend of 25-26 of this month. That means 20 days without action with only two regular season rounds remaining.
When play restarts, the two fixtures listed are Villarreal vs Alba FF on 25 or 26 May and Real Madrid B vs Villarreal on two or three April.
