Reaction to Audi Football Summit against Aston Villa

Vincent Kompany: “I’m very pleased with the energy we showed against Aston Villa today. When you get towards the end and both teams have made a lot of substitutions, you do lose a bit of the control. And in that phase it’s not about tactical coaching but about how a friendly can look: both teams wanted to win, both wanted to create something.”

On the Audi Summer Tour: “I’m impressed. We know who’s here and who isn’t. We always want to demonstrate what Bayern are about. When I look at how the young players have performed, that pleases me a lot. Overall all the players did very well. We’ve invested a lot of time in the development of the players who we saw today, and it’s nice to get a reward for the work. These are young players who allow us to have a deeper squad and then we can be creative.”

On Kimmich: “Joshua Kimmich has a minor injury from the World Cup. He trained this morning but didn’t take part in the match. We want to make the most of the brief time until the start of the season, but also take precautions and not do anything too extreme.”

Manuel Neuer: “It was important for us to win this match against a top team from the Premier League, who have also qualified for the Champions League, and to turn in a good performance. The conditions weren’t easy but we gave a good account of ourselves, so I’m very pleased. We’re always trying to improve and do the basics right. The young players who are coming in are trying to learn that as quickly as possible. They presented themselves in a very good light.” 

On the Audi Summer Tour: “We’ve seen what we get back. The fans support us, so it’s good that we show a presence here.”

On the current situation: “It’s important that the core of the team hasn’t really changed and we’ve got a few new faces who strengthen the squad. We still have a couple of friendlies going into the Supercup. We take them very seriously, as you also saw today.”

Jonathan Tah: “We really appreciate the fans coming to the stadium today and supporting us. We’re happy that we won this game. Hong Kong has been a really nice experience. We turned in a good performance, even though the pitch wasn’t perfect. Obviously I always want to keep improving myself, but utlimately it’s about doing the fundamentals well, paying attention to the details, developing in every season and in every match, and working hard. Lucho is a magnificent player, I enjoying play with him. He’s a great guy to boot.”
