Vincent Kompany has urged his Burnley players to use the ‘momentum’ the crowd will give them as they look to beat bitter rivals Blackburn tomorrow.
The Lancashire rivalry will resume for the first time in five years when the sides meet at Turf Moor and it has the added importance of the clubs currently occupying the top two spots in the Championship.
Therefore, there is a lot of excitement and tension ahead of kick-off and Kompany explained to Lancashire Live that his side must make the most of the home advantage.
“You have to prepare well, that’s key for these types of games, and then on the day use the momentum of the crowd without trying to play the game before it has to be played.
“Turf Moor has been a special place this season, it’s lived up to expectations. Normally it’s players who have responsibility to get a crowd going, but on derby day it’s a shared responsibility. When we are down, we need the fans to be there for us and then when we’re up, we’ll try to get the fans going as well.”

The verdict
This is a massive fixture for all concerned and that’s without even looking at the table, which adds even more spice to this game.
So, it should be a thriller and Turf Moor will be rocking. As Kompany says, it’s up to the players to use that to their advantage and they know how much a loud home support can help.
Ultimately, it’s about dealing with the pressure and intensity that comes with the fixture and Kompany will be desperate for a win to ensure they open up a nice gap to their rivals going into the World Cup.
