Vincent Kompany will miss Bayern Munich’s Champions League semi-final first leg at Paris Saint-Germain on April 28 after a booking triggered a touchline ban.

He was cautioned for dissent after Kylian Mbappé’s strike put Real Madrid 3-2 up during Bayern’s 4-3 win at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday. “I don’t think the decision is right if you look at what happens on the pitch, how many people complain and say things,” he told DAZN.

The goal followed an incident in which Josip Stanišić went down under a challenge from Antonio Rüdiger, prompting Kompany to protest to the referee.

“I always try to remain respectful, and I was respectful.”

“I think it was normal for me to say something in that phase. Our player was on the ground.”

“The yellow card came far too quickly for me. I was surprised.”

“In this new Champions League format there are so many extra games, and yet it is still so strict. You already get suspended after three yellow cards.”
