A magical night at the Santiago Bernabeu concluded with Real Madrid pulling off a heist as they crushed Borussia Dortmund 5-2.

The following ratings reflect how the Real Madrid players fared in this game.

Player ratings:

Thibaut Courtois: 8.0

The Belgian could have reacted better to the first goal but could not have done much for the second goal. Made as many as five saves throughout the game, with the most important one coming in the 82nd minute. A solid outing for him.

Lucas Vazquez: 6.5

Scored a goal to give Real Madrid the lead but defensively, an unconvincing showing. Beaten easily off the ball but was physically good as he put numerous shifts up and down the pitch.

Antonio Rüdiger: 7.5

Surely the pick of the backline for the night. Gave Madrid the lead and put in a decent defensive showing. Could have tried to cut off the pass for the first goal though.

Eder Militao: 7.0

Surprisingly did not offer much on set pieces but put in as many as 7 accurate long balls throughout the game. Won the duels, cleared the ball out of danger thrice and made two interceptions as well.

Ferland Mendy: 6.0

A poor display from the Frenchman. Just attempted one cross, which was not even accurate. Donyell Malen ran him ragged on the right wing. Not been quite the season so far for Mendy.

Luka Modric: 7.5

Covered the pitch well centrally and his presence in the field meant that Madrid did create many chances albeit not to fruition. Extends his purple patch with another good game.

Fede Valverde: 7.0

In the absence of Aurelien Tchouaméni, the Uruguayan played as a defensive midfielder for a good chunk of the match. But was an absolute workhorse and did not overdo stuff. Made tackles, interceptions, clearances and took a shot at goal too.

Jude Bellingham: 7.5

The Englishman could easily have had a brace to his name in just the first half. After Madrid conceded twice, he was found empty in the box but headed the ball straight to the keeper and later on his shot struck the crossbar. Returned to the central midfield and his hard work throughout the game was rewarded as he recorded an assist for the fourth goal.

Rodrygo: 7.0

The front line looked better with him on the pitch. He offered defensive workrate as well this time around. Hit the crossbar and struck the ball wide in the opening half. Threaded a pass to Vazquez which led to the third goal. Reportedly, the Brazilian’s inclusion in the El Clasico is unlikely as he pulled his hamstring during this match.

Kylian Mbappe: 7.5

Not a first half display he would be proud of but came into the second half a better version. Assisted Rüdiger for the opening goal and had two of his shots saved later on too. Positive signs for Madrid leading up to El Clasico.

Vinicius Junior: 10.0

An absolutely ruthless display from the 24-year old. The big game player truly stepped up to the occasion. Proved to be a menace on the left, nutmegging players and keeping the defenders on their toes at all times. Arguably one of the greatest Champions League displays of all time. Next up: FC Barcelona and who knows – the Ballon d’Or?

Substitutes:

Eduardo Camavinga: 7.0

Proved to be an able replacement for Modric, providing some much needed stability and looked comfortable on the ball.

Aurelien Tchouaméni: 6.0

Did well enough to see the game through, making an interception and tackle each.
