Last Tuesday, during Real Madrid's victory over Benfica (1-0) in the Champions League, Vinicius Jr accused Gianluca Prestianni of racist abuse. The incident continues to make headlines this Friday.

Without directly taking sides, José Mourinho still criticized the Brazilian for his way of celebrating. That reaction was completely unacceptable to Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany.

"For me, what happened after the match was even worse. José Mourinho, in a way, attacked Vini's character by bringing up his celebration to discredit him. That was a huge mistake in terms of his leadership. On top of that, Mourinho mentioned Eusébio's name. He said Benfica couldn't be racist because their greatest ever player was Eusébio. Do you know what Black players had to endure in the 1960s? Was he there to accompany Eusébio to every away game and see what he went through? Using his name to make a point in the Vini affair... I've met a hundred people who worked with Mourinho, and I've never heard anyone speak ill of him. All his players adore him. I understand who he is, I understand that he fights for his club. Deep down, I know he's a good person. I don't need to judge him for that. But I also know what I heard. I understand what he did, but he made a mistake. I hope this doesn't happen again in the future and that we can all move forward together," said the Belgian coach at a press conference this Friday.
