A bizarre conspiracy theory surrounding Vinicius Jr. has spread across Brazilian social media, with online users falsely claiming that the Real Madrid forward disappeared and was replaced by a body double.

The claim has no credible evidence behind it and has been ignored by both Vinicius’ entourage and Real Madrid, according to MARCA.

Notably, the story began circulating primarily through Brazilian forums and TikTok accounts in September 2026. 

It has since developed into a collection of extreme claims about the forward’s identity and appearance.

One of the arguments being pushed online centres on tattoos. Some users have claimed that the Vinicius who appeared during Brazil’s training camp did not have the same thigh tattoos as the player representing Real Madrid.

How the Vinicius body-double theory started

As seen on the social media, the theory has also attempted to connect changes in the forward’s facial appearance with the alleged use of a replacement.

“A completely crazy conspiracy theory claims that the CIA, the Rothschilds (an influential European dynasty of German-Jewish origin that founded major banking and financial institutions in the late 18th century) and the elites killed Vinicius and replaced him after the World Cup,” notes a Twitter user.

Other versions of the theory have introduced claims involving extraterrestrials, including an alleged reptilian alien invasion during the World Cup supposedly linked to the disappearance of Vinicius and Neymar.

The attention appears to have been amplified by the fact that Vinicius’ appearance and physical condition have been discussed more closely during a difficult period on the pitch.

Vinicius’ form adds fuel to online speculation

While the conspiracy itself is baseless, Vinicius is genuinely experiencing increased scrutiny because of his performances.

The Real Madrid forward has scored only once in eight appearances this season, while his displays for Brazil have also attracted criticism.

His performance against Australia during the international break became another talking point, with questions raised about his ability to influence the match in the manner fans have come to expect from him.

That downturn has coincided with a more difficult relationship with sections of the Real Madrid support, as Vinicius has been booed during matches.

None of that, however, provides evidence for the body-double claims circulating online.

The most significant response from the player’s camp has effectively been no response at all.

MARCA reports that both Real Madrid and Vinicius’ entourage have chosen to ignore the conspiracy theory rather than give it further attention, leaving the story where it belongs: in the realm of unsupported internet speculation.
