Vinicius heads to Brazil with club’s leave, season effectively over

Vinicius’s Real Madrid season is effectively over after he travelled to Brazil with club permission, his focus now on the World Cup.

As reported by as.com, the trip is for personal reasons. He did not train yesterday or today, and is not expected at tomorrow’s final session under Arbeloa. A brief return for Carvajal’s tribute is not ruled out, but he is almost certain to miss Athletic.

Valverde has cleared medical checks, is training normally and could start on Saturday. Tchouameni has tibial discomfort, worked in the gym and is a serious doubt, with plans for him to complete only part of tomorrow’s work. He is unlikely to be risked with the World Cup approaching.

Trent is also doubtful due to a flu-like illness, having missed Thursday’s session and facing checks on Friday. With Saturday earmarked for Carvajal, the only question is whether Trent will be on the bench for a late ovation. His England World Cup hopes are slim.

Confirmed absentees are Militao and Mendy with hamstring tendon tears, and Rodrygo with a right ACL and meniscus injury, with Vinicius taking the list to four. Güler has trained normally and could be included, while Ceballos, fit but frozen out after a row, may miss a farewell.

Two days from the final match, Vinicius remains the headline. He has logged a team-high 4,249 minutes, ahead of Valverde’s 4,068 and Tchouameni’s 3,941, and is expected to link up with Brazil’s camp from there. He will return next season.
