Forward Vinicius Junior’s angry reaction to his substitution was one of the talking points after Real Madrid beat Barcelona 2-1 at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday.

The Brazil international stormed into the dressing room after international team-mate Rodrygo replaced him in the 72nd minute.

He later returned to the bench, but his reaction sparked controversy, with many people questioning his respect for his teammates and manager Xabi Alonso.

Vinicius has now issued a public apology through his social media account for his conduct.

It is unclear whether the Brazilian will be punished by Alonso, with a meeting reportedly scheduled for today.

Vinicius reportedly has had a strained relationship with Alonso due to his reduced game time this season.

He had played 819 minutes in the La Liga at this stage last season, but has only been on the field for 699 minutes this term.

Kylian Mbappe is Alonso’s most trusted forward, and he has repaid the faith, scoring 11 goals in 10 games – the most in the Spanish top-flight.

Vinicius has also been in good form lately, contributing five goals in his last five league games.

The 25-year-old needs to be level-headed to develop a stronger relationship with Alonso.
