Vinícius Júnior has told his camp he wants to leave Real Madrid, according to El Periódico Mediterráneo, after feeling unwanted at the Santiago Bernabéu. He has conveyed that he does not want to play where he is not wanted.
His name drew 83 decibels when the line-up was read out, the loudest reaction among the starters. It even surpassed the jeers for Jude Bellingham, as sections of the stadium blamed Vinícius and Florentino Pérez for the team’s slide.
He has bristled at being singled out after the Copa exit in Albacete, noting he was one of only two senior players who flew and played at Carlos Belmonte, while other stars did not make the trip. He argues he did not hide despite a poor display.
Against Levante he completed 90 minutes, then headed straight for the tunnel without greetings. The forward, an emotional figure, feels he has given much to Madrid, including goals that delivered Champions League titles.
His contract saga has further strained relations. With Florentino Pérez making his renewal a priority, Vinícius has raised his terms, seeking parity with Kylian Mbappé and a status he believes his performances warrant.
Flashpoints with Xabi Alonso, from his reaction to a Bernabéu substitution to a row in the United States over his benching against PSG at the Club World Cup, have also weighed. Fede Valverde publicly in Kazakhstan, and Jude Bellingham privately, had previously confronted the coach.
Saturday at the Bernabéu felt like a rupture between the fanbase and Vinícius.
