Vinícius Júnior has completed his second pre-season session with Real Madrid as talks over a renewal remain difficult. He said he feels very good, is getting to know José Mourinho and new team-mates, and that training has been intense.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, a Wednesday meeting is planned between José Ángel Sánchez and Juni Calafat and the Roc Nation Sports agents representing Vinícius to see if positions can be brought closer. The gap between the parties is described as significant. After the Club World Cup, a Valdebebas meeting appeared to narrow differences and show willingness to agree, but issues remain.
Back from a World Cup in which, despite being Brazil’s best player, he went out in the last 16 to Norway, he has returned to Valdebebas under Mourinho. He said the coach wants him to be as he has always been on the pitch, to be happy and cheerful and to keep playing his football.
Vinícius outlined that Mourinho’s plan is to build strong fitness so injuries are reduced and the squad is available across the season. He added that Tuesday included some gym work to load the legs and that it was a very good session, even if everyone finished exhausted.
The talks hinge on two points. His agents are seeking a signing-on bonus, since next summer he could leave on a free and negotiate with Arsenal or any club, and the player wants to recover 80% of his image rights, a major revenue stream currently flowing to Real Madrid.
