Vinicius struck a superb opener in Lisbon, then a confrontation with Gianluca Prestianni saw Benfica v Real Madrid paused for eight minutes in the Champions League play-off first leg.
After his 50th-minute drive flew into Anatoliy Troubine's top corner, the Brazilian forward was approached by the young Argentine winger. According to L'Équipe, Vinicius accused Prestianni of insulting him, possibly of a racist nature.
He sprinted to French referee François Leteixier, moments after receiving a yellow card for his celebration. Pointing at Prestianni, he appeared to complain about the insult, and Leteixier signalled a temporary suspension.
Vinicius left the pitch, with team-mates including Aurélien Tchouaméni and Kylian Mbappé offering support. Following scuffles, play restarted after eight minutes to loud jeers around the Luz.
The incident punctuated the second half in Lisbon.
