Violence Erupts in Paris Following Champions League Win | OneFootball

Paris Saint-Germain won its first UEFA Champions League title on Saturday after defeating Inter Milan 5-0 in Munich, Germany. In the French capital, the celebration turned violent, and so far, two deaths have been reported.

According to the BBC, two people have died, including a 17-year-old boy who was stabbed and a 23-year-old man on a scooter who was hit by another vehicle.

Throughout the night, fireworks and flares lit up the night sky. There were scenes of burning cars, and roadways were blocked with people celebrating PSG’s win. On Sunday morning, the club released a statement on social media.

“Paris Saint-Germain condemns in the strongest possible terms the violence that occurred during the celebrations. The title of European Champion should be a moment of collective joy, not of agitation or excesses. These isolated acts are contrary to the Club’s values and in no way represent the vast majority of our supporters, whose exemplary behavior throughout the season deserves to be recognized. Paris Saint-Germain calls on everyone to demonstrate responsibly and respect so that this historic victory remains a moment of pride shared by all.”

According to the report, 559 arrests were made, including 491 in Paris. More than 260 vehicles were set on fire, and 22 police officers and seven firefighters were injured in the post-match violence.

The official parade is scheduled for Sunday through the streets of Paris. Thousands are expected to attend to catch a glimpse of the Champions League trophy, Luis Enrique, Ousmane Dembélé, Désiré Doué, and PSG’s other stars.
