The Reds open new league campaign at Anfield this Friday

Virgil van Dijk has opened the door to Liverpool signing another attacker amid the Reds’ pursuit of Alexander Isak.

Liverpool have spent heavily this summer, with the signing of Florian Wirtz for over £100million, while Hugo Ekitike also arrived from Eintracht Frankfurt for an initial £68m.

They have also signed Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong in the full-back areas.

Arne Slot’s side saw a £110m plus add-ons offer for Isak knocked back by Newcastle earlier this month.

Now, van Dijk believes that the Merseysiders could do with one more body in their attacking arsenal.

"Well, we just lost Darwin [Nunez], he went to Saudi and we lost Lucho [Luis Diaz], obviously he went to Bayern,” van Dijk told talkSPORT.

“I think there's always room for an attacker in order to strengthen us so let's see what the window brings in terms of the balance of the team."

However, van Dijk’s compatriot and his manager Slot told the media the opposite, insisting that he was happy with his current complement of players.

"I think we have more than enough options to be good enough to win again,” the Dutchman said.

"This is where I focus on myself. With the players we have we should be able to win, to score. That's actually what we did as well. We scored twice and last season we only scored one against [Crystal Palace], away and at home.

“We could only score one against them. So my last concern at the moment is our offensive quality.”

Liverpool open the Premier League campaign at home to Bournemouth at Anfield on Friday evening.
