Virgil van Dijk has revealed there is “nothing on the table” in terms of a contract offer from Liverpool, but made it clear he is ready to support incoming boss Arne Slot.

The Dutchman’s current deal expires in 2025, meaning he will be entering the final year of his contract if fresh terms are not agreed this summer.

It is the same situation with Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, as Liverpool face big decisions over the futures of three players that have been instrumental in the club’s success under Jurgen Klopp.

A summer of change is on the cards at Anfield, with Klopp standing down and Slot taking charge, and it remains to be seen whether current captain Van Dijk has a long-term future at the club under the new manager.

“My future is not important at the moment,” Van Dijk said after Liverpool’s win over Wolves on the final day.

“The only thing I can say now is if I have a farewell I don't think I would keep it dry (not cry).

“Nothing has changed and nothing is on the table either. No changes in my situation at all."

Slot confirmed last week he will replace Klopp as Liverpool boss, after a compensational was agreed with Feyenoord earlier this season.

The 45-year-old led the Dutch side to the 2022-23 Eredivisie title and Van Dijk is ready to play his part in helping Slot try and replicate that success in the Premier League.

"There is so much room for improvement, so much room to develop. I am looking forward to next season already,” Van Dijk said.

"Change is sometimes a little bit scary as you are in the unknown but the only thing you can do is trust the club.

“I am very curious and have a lot of questions. The Premier League and Liverpool is obviously a different ball game but we are here for him. I'll be here for him, whatever he needs.

“It is all about sticking together and giving him the chance to show what he is capable of with the other guys who will come in.”
